Carl Sandburg Visits Me in a Dream

So, I haven't updated this thing in a long, long, long, long, long, long time. Mainly because I'm busy with other crap, and I never even go Livejournal anymore. But, here's a post that I put in my journal on the Dirty Larry website, and I thought it was worthy of posting here...since no one reads this anyway. Here goes nothing:

North American Ape(s?) - Oct 29 2005
As far as I'm concerned, the verdict on Bigfoot is still out. I think that Nessie is mostly a crock, but good ol' Sasquatch, Bigfoot, Alabama Booger Monster, Skunk Ape, or whatever else you want to call it, is possible. There are stories dating back hundreds of years about "Sasquatch-like" creatures in North America; there are even stories in some Native American cultures that revolve around a large, bipedal ape-like creature (and the majority of Native American stories involve real animals like the raven, the coyote, the rabbit, etc.). Certainly there is evidence in the fossil record, as well. A large bipedal hominoid genus of great ape called Gigantopithecus resided in parts of Asia as recently as 500,000 years ago, and the Yeti, the Abominable Snowman, and the Wildman are all purportedly Bigfoot-like creatures that call regions of Asia home. The skull of Gigantopithecus is much larger than that of a gorilla's skull! Perhaps the legends of Bigfoot were spawned millenia ago when the precursors to Homo sapiens sapiens shared the world with giant apes, and stories about these titans trickled down through the ages. Or perhaps some survived and are the giants that lurk about the forests and swamps of North America, the tundra of the Himalayas, and even parts of Australia! What do you think? I think that no one reads this anyway so I'll probably post this on livejournal or myspace. Hasta luego.
